Sri Akaal Takht Sahib, is ‘The Official Sikh Governing Body‘ that represents the temporal, sovereign and political structure of Sikh faith, beliefs and its principles. It has always remained as symbolic structure of ‘Sikh Parliament’ (as in Democratic set-ups), since the times of Sikh Gurus. The first coronation was laid by sixth sikh guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib, in 1606 at Sri Amritsar Sahib, right in front of the gateway (Darshani Deodhi) of Sri Harmandir Sahib. At that time, it was supposed to be named as ‘Akal Bunga‘ and afterwards the tradition of sustaining its temporal supremacy was responsibly held by following Sikh gurus, generals, priests or clergy (jathedars).
